Jaya kali jagadamba jaya, harani ogha agha punja, Vasa karahu nija dasa ke, nishadina hridaya-nikunja.
Victory to Kali, Mother of the world, victory to you who sweep away the mass of sins; dwell night and day in the grove of your servant’s heart.
जगत की माता काली की जय हो, जो पापों के समूह का नाश करती हैं; अपने दास के हृदय रूपी कुंज में रात-दिन निवास करो।
Victoire à Kali, Mère du monde, victoire à toi qui emportes l’amas des péchés ; demeure nuit et jour dans le bosquet du cœur de ton serviteur.

हे माता, तुम्हारे शरीर की छवि श्यामवर्ण है; तुम कालिका नाम से जगत में विख्यात हो।

शंख, चक्र और सुहावनी गदा, परिघ, भुशुण्डी और पवित्र घंटा।
Conque, disque et masse gracieuse, massue de fer, bhushundi et cloche sacrée.

शूल बज्र धनुबाण उठाये, निशिचर कुल सब मारि गिराये।
Shula bajra dhanubana uthaye, nishichara kula saba mari giraye,
Raising the trident, thunderbolt, bow and arrows, you struck down the whole race of night-roamers.
शूल, वज्र, धनुष और बाण उठाकर तुमने राक्षसों के पूरे कुल को मार गिराया।
Brandissant trident, foudre, arc et flèches, tu abattis toute la race des rôdeurs de la nuit.

शुंभ निशुंभ दैत्य संहारे, रक्तबीज के प्राण निकारे।
Shumbha nishumbha daitya sanhare, raktabija ke prana nikare,
You slew the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha and drew out the life of Raktabija.
तुमने शुंभ और निशुंभ दैत्यों का संहार किया और रक्तबीज के प्राण निकाल लिए।

चौंसठ योगिनी नाचत संगा, मद्यपान कीन्हैउ रण गंगा।
Chaunsatha yogini nachata sanga, madyapana kinhaiu rana ganga,

चौंसठ योगिनियाँ तुम्हारे संग नाचती हैं, और तुमने रण की धारा में मद्यपान किया।

The bells at your waist and the sweet sound of your anklets: hearing them, the race of demons trembles.
कमर की करधनी और नूपुरों की मधुर ध्वनि सुन-सुनकर दैत्यवंश काँप उठता है।
Les clochettes de ta ceinture et le doux son de tes anneaux de cheville font trembler la race des démons qui les entend.

कर खप्पर त्रिशूल भयकारी, अहै सदा सन्तन सुखकारी।
Kara khappara trishula bhayakari, ahai sada santana sukhakari,
With skull-bowl and trident in hand you are fearsome, yet ever the giver of joy to the saints.
हाथ में खप्पर और त्रिशूल लिए तुम भयंकर हो, फिर भी संतों को सदा सुख देने वाली हो।
Coupe-crâne et trident en main, tu es terrifiante, et pourtant toujours source de joie pour les saints.

शव आरूढ़ नृत्य तुम साजा, बजत मृदंग भेरी के बाजा।
Shava arurha nritya tuma saja, bajata mridanga bheri ke baja,
Mounted on a corpse you dance, as the mridanga and the kettledrums sound.
शव पर आरूढ़ होकर तुम नृत्य करती हो, और मृदंग व भेरी के बाजे बजते हैं।
Montée sur un cadavre, tu danses, au son du mridanga et des timbales.

रक्त पान अरिदल को कीन्हा, प्राण तजेउ जो तुम्हिं न चीन्हा।
Rakta pana aridala ko kinha, prana tajeu jo tumhim na chinha,
You drank the blood of the enemy hosts; those who did not know you gave up their lives.
तुमने शत्रु-दल का रक्तपान किया; जिन्होंने तुम्हें नहीं पहचाना, उन्होंने प्राण त्याग दिए।
Tu bus le sang des armées ennemies ; ceux qui ne te reconnurent pas rendirent l’âme.

लपलपाति जिव्हा तव माता, भक्तन सुख दुष्टन दुःख दाता।
Lapalapati jivha tava mata, bhaktana sukha dushtana duhkha data,
Mother, your tongue darts and quivers; you give joy to devotees and sorrow to the wicked.
हे माता, तुम्हारी जिह्वा लपलपाती है; तुम भक्तों को सुख और दुष्टों को दुख देती हो।
Mère, ta langue frémit et s’agite ; tu donnes la joie aux fidèles et la douleur aux méchants.

लसत भाल सेंदुर को टीको, बिखरे केश रूप अति नीको।
Lasata bhala sendura ko tiko, bikhare kesha rupa ati niko,
A mark of vermilion shines on your brow; your hair is unbound, your form exceedingly lovely.
तुम्हारे माथे पर सिंदूर का टीका शोभा देता है; केश बिखरे हैं और रूप अत्यंत सुंदर है।
Une marque de vermillon brille sur ton front ; ta chevelure est dénouée, ta forme d’une grande beauté.

मुंडमाल गल अतिशय सोहत, भुजामाल किंकण मनमोहत।
Mundamala gala atishaya sohata, bhujamala kinkana manamohata,
The garland of heads at your throat is most splendid; the garland of arms and the bracelets enchant the mind.
गले में मुंडमाला अत्यंत शोभायमान है; भुजाओं की माला और कंगन मन को मोह लेते हैं।
La guirlande de têtes à ton cou est splendide ; la guirlande de bras et les bracelets ravissent l’esprit.

प्रलय नृत्य तुम करहु भवानी, जगदम्बा कहि वेद बखानी।
Pralaya nritya tuma karahu bhavani, jagadamba kahi veda bakhani,
Bhavani, you dance the dance of dissolution; the Vedas proclaim you Jagadamba.
हे भवानी, तुम प्रलय का नृत्य करती हो; वेद तुम्हें जगदम्बा कहकर बखानते हैं।
Bhavani, tu danses la danse de la dissolution ; les Veda te proclament Jagadamba.

तुम मशान वासिनी कराला, भजत तुरत काटहु भवजाला।
Tuma mashana vasini karala, bhajata turata katahu bhavajala,
Fearsome one, you dwell in the cremation ground; for those who worship you, you at once cut the net of worldly existence.
हे कराल रूपा, तुम श्मशान में वास करती हो; भजन करने वालों का संसार-जाल तुम तुरंत काट देती हो।
Ô terrible, tu demeures au lieu de crémation ; pour qui t’adore, tu tranches aussitôt le filet de l’existence.

बावन शक्ति पीठ तव सुन्दर, जहाँ बिराजत विविध रूप धर।
Bavana shakti pitha tava sundara, jaham birajata vividha rupa dhara,
Your fifty-two shakti-pithas are beautiful, where you abide in many forms.
तुम्हारे बावन शक्तिपीठ सुंदर हैं, जहाँ तुम विविध रूप धारण करके विराजती हो।
Tes cinquante-deux shakti-pitha sont magnifiques, où tu résides sous des formes multiples.

विन्धवासिनी कहूँ बड़ाई, कहँ कालिका रूप सुहाई।
Vindhavasini kahum barai, kaham kalika rupa suhai,
Somewhere you are glorified as Vindhyavasini, somewhere lovely in the form of Kalika.
कहीं विंध्यवासिनी के रूप में तुम्हारी बड़ाई होती है, कहीं तुम्हारा कालिका रूप शोभा देता है।
Ici glorifiée comme Vindhyavasini, là resplendissante sous la forme de Kalika.

शाकम्भरी बनी कहँ ज्वाला, महिषासुर मर्दिनी कराला।
Shakambhari bani kaham jvala, mahishasura mardini karala,
Somewhere you became Shakambhari, somewhere Jvala, and the fearsome slayer of Mahishasura.
कहीं तुम शाकम्भरी बनीं, कहीं ज्वाला, और कहीं भयंकर महिषासुरमर्दिनी।
Ailleurs tu devins Shakambhari, ailleurs Jvala, et la redoutable pourfendeuse de Mahishasura.

कामाख्या तव नाम मनोहर, पुजवहिं मनोकामना द्रुततर।
Kamakhya tava nama manohara, pujavahim manokamana drutatara,
Kamakhya is your lovely name; worshipped there, you swiftly fulfil the heart’s desires.
कामाख्या तुम्हारा मनोहर नाम है; वहाँ पूजने पर तुम शीघ्र मनोकामनाएँ पूरी करती हो।
Kamakhya est ton nom ravissant ; adorée là, tu exauces promptement les désirs du cœur.

चंड मुंड वध छिन महं करेउ, देवन के उर आनन्द भरेउ।
Chanda munda vadha chhina maham kareu, devana ke ura ananda bhareu,
In an instant you slew Chanda and Munda and filled the hearts of the gods with joy.
तुमने क्षण भर में चंड-मुंड का वध किया और देवताओं के हृदय आनंद से भर दिए।
En un instant tu tuas Chanda et Munda, et remplis de joie le cœur des dieux.

सर्व व्यापिनी तुम माँ तारा, अरिदल दलन लेहु अवतारा।
Sarva vyapini tuma mam tara, aridala dalana lehu avatara,
Mother Tara, you pervade all; you descend to crush the hosts of the enemy.
हे माँ तारा, तुम सर्वव्यापिनी हो; शत्रु-दल का दलन करने के लिए तुम अवतार लेती हो।
Mère Tara, tu es partout présente ; tu descends pour écraser les armées ennemies.

खलबल मचत सुनत हुँकारी, अगजग व्यापक देह तुम्हारी।
Khalabala machata sunata hunkari, agajaga vyapaka deha tumhari,
Hearing your roar, turmoil breaks out; your body pervades all that moves and is still.
तुम्हारी हुंकार सुनकर खलबली मच जाती है; तुम्हारी देह चर-अचर जगत में व्याप्त है।
À ton rugissement, le tumulte éclate ; ton corps emplit tout ce qui se meut et demeure.

तुम विराट रूपा गुणखानी, विश्व स्वरूपा तुम महारानी।
Tuma virata rupa gunakhani, vishva svarupa tuma maharani,
You are of cosmic form, mine of virtues; you are the form of the universe, great queen.
तुम विराट रूप वाली और गुणों की खान हो; हे महारानी, तुम विश्व का स्वरूप हो।
Tu es de forme cosmique, mine de vertus ; tu es la forme de l’univers, grande reine.

उत्पत्ति स्थिति लय तुम्हरे कारण, करहु दास के दोष निवारण।
Utpatti sthiti laya tumhare karana, karahu dasa ke dosha nivarana,
Creation, preservation and dissolution happen through you; remove the faults of your servant.
सृष्टि, स्थिति और प्रलय तुम्हारे कारण होते हैं; अपने दास के दोष दूर करो।
Création, maintien et dissolution procèdent de toi ; ôte les fautes de ton serviteur.

माँ उर वास करहू तुम अंबा, सदा दीन जन की अवलंबा।
Mam ura vasa karahu tuma amba, sada dina jana ki avalamba,
Mother Amba, dwell in my heart, ever the support of the lowly.
हे माँ अम्बा, मेरे हृदय में वास करो; तुम सदा दीन जनों का सहारा हो।

विश्वरूप तुम आदि भवानी, महिमा वेद पुराण बखानी।
Vishvarupa tuma adi bhavani, mahima veda purana bakhani,
You are the universal form, the primal Bhavani; the Vedas and Puranas proclaim your glory.
तुम विश्वरूप और आदि भवानी हो; वेद और पुराण तुम्हारी महिमा का बखान करते हैं।
Tu es la forme universelle, la Bhavani primordiale ; les Veda et les Purana célèbrent ta gloire.

अति अपार तव नाम प्रभावा, जपत न रहन रंच दुःख दावा।
Ati apara tava nama prabhava, japata na rahana rancha duhkha dava,
Boundless is the power of your name; for those who chant it, not a trace of sorrow’s hold remains.
तुम्हारे नाम का प्रभाव अपार है; उसका जप करने से दुख का लेश भी नहीं रहता।
Infinie est la puissance de ton nom ; à qui le répète, il ne reste pas trace de douleur.

महाकालिका जय कल्याणी, जयति सदा सेवक सुखदानी।
Mahakalika jaya kalyani, jayati sada sevaka sukhadani,
Victory to Mahakalika, the auspicious one; victory to her who ever gives joy to her servants.
कल्याणी महाकालिका की जय हो; सेवकों को सदा सुख देने वाली माता की जय हो।
Victoire à Mahakalika, la bienveillante ; victoire à celle qui donne toujours la joie à ses serviteurs.

तुम अनन्त औदार्य विभूषण, कीजिये कृपा क्षमिये सब दूषण।
Tuma ananta audarya vibhushana, kijiye kripa kshamiye saba dushana,
You are adorned with endless generosity; show grace and forgive all my faults.
तुम अनंत उदारता से विभूषित हो; कृपा करो और मेरे सब दोष क्षमा करो।
Tu es parée d’une générosité infinie ; fais grâce et pardonne toutes mes fautes.

दास जानि निज दया दिखावहु, सुत अनुमानित सहित अपनावहु।
Dasa jani nija daya dikhavahu, suta anumanita sahita apanavahu,
Knowing me as your servant, show your mercy; regarding me as your son, take me as your own.
मुझे अपना दास जानकर दया दिखाओ; पुत्र मानकर मुझे अपना लो।
Me sachant ton serviteur, montre ta miséricorde ; me tenant pour ton fils, fais de moi le tien.

जननी तुम सेवक प्रति पाली, करहु कृपा सब विधि माँ काली।
Janani tuma sevaka prati pali, karahu kripa saba vidhi mam kali,
Mother, you nurture your servants; Mother Kali, show grace in every way.
हे जननी, तुम सेवकों का पालन करने वाली हो; हे माँ काली, हर प्रकार से कृपा करो।
Mère, tu nourris et protèges tes serviteurs ; Mère Kali, fais grâce de toutes les manières.

पाठ करै चालीसा जोई, तापर कृपा तुम्हारी होइ।
Patha karai chalisa joi, tapara kripa tumhari hoi,
Whoever recites this Chalisa receives your grace.
जो कोई यह चालीसा पढ़ता है, उस पर तुम्हारी कृपा होती है।
Quiconque récite ce Chalisa reçoit ta grâce.
Doha 3
जय तारा, जय दक्षिणा, कलावती सुखमूल। शरणागत 'भक्त' है, रहहु सदा अनुकूल॥
Jaya tara, jaya dakshina, kalavati sukhamula, Sharanagata 'bhakta' hai, rahahu sada anukula.
Victory to Tara, victory to Dakshina, Kalavati, root of joy; your devotee has come to you for refuge: remain ever gracious to him.
तारा की जय, दक्षिणा की जय, हे सुख की मूल कलावती; यह भक्त तुम्हारी शरण में आया है, सदा अनुकूल रहो।
Victoire à Tara, victoire à Dakshina, Kalavati, source de la joie ; ton fidèle s’est réfugié auprès de toi : sois-lui toujours favorable.
