Shri Bhargava Panchang — App Privacy Policy
Effective 13 October 2026
This policy covers the Shri Bhargava Panchang app for iPhone and Android. The app is built to need very little: you can use the whole Panchang without an account and without giving us anything at all. What follows says exactly what changes if you choose to sign in. Questions are welcome at support@panchang.ca.
Who is responsible
The Shri Bhargava Panchang app is published and operated by Bhargava Group Limited, Toronto, Ontario, on behalf of Rajiv Bhargava, Ph.D. Bhargava Group Limited is the controller of the personal information described here for the purposes of Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25), and the European and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Our Privacy Officer is responsible for the protection of personal information, and can be reached at support@panchang.ca or by post: Privacy Officer, Bhargava Group Limited, 6A-170 The Donway W, Suite 1004, Toronto, ON M3C 2E8, Canada.
The website panchang.ca has its own privacy policy; this one covers the app.
Using the app without an account
Without an account, everything you set — your name, email address and phone number if you enter them in your Profile, your city and country, the places you save, your language, the days your household keeps, and your reminders — is stored only on your phone. None of it is sent to us.
Whether or not you sign in, the numbers and the rāśi you choose to keep in your Profile from Aṅka Jyotiṣa and the Rāśi Finder — with the name, birth date and birth details they came from — stay only on your phone. They are reckoned on the phone, never sent to us, and you can remove them in Profile or with Clear data on this phone.
To show the Panchang, the app downloads the day's published tables from our website. Those requests carry nothing about you, but like any request on the internet they reach our hosting provider with your IP address, which it keeps briefly in security logs to protect the service from abuse. We do not use it to identify you.
What we collect if you sign in
Signing in is optional. It exists so that your places and household days follow you to another phone. If you sign in, we hold:
- Your sign-in details. An account identifier, and the email address given by the method you choose: Sign in with Apple (which may be a private relay address if you choose to hide your email), Google, or your own email address confirmed by a one-time code. If Apple or Google share your name, we keep it to greet you; you may leave it out.
- Your profile. Your first and last name, and your phone number if you choose to add it. Every field is optional and can be left blank. We use your phone number only to reach you about your account when you ask us to; we never send marketing by text message and never share it.
- Your places. The cities and countries you save. The app never reads your phone's location; a place is only ever one you chose.
- Your household days. The labels you give them (for example a tithi-birthday or a shraaddh), the lunar date they are kept by, and any note you add. Please do not add more than you need — a first name or a relationship is enough.
- Your settings. Language, the time of your morning note, and which festivals and fasts you want reminders for.
We use this only to provide the app to you: to keep your account, to keep your places, days and settings in step across your phones, and to answer you if you write to us. Legal basis: the contract between us (providing the service you asked for) and, for anything optional, your consent.
What the app does not collect
- Your device location — no GPS, no location permission.
- Contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or files.
- Advertising identifiers. The app shows no advertising and does not track you across other apps or websites.
- Analytics or crash-reporting data. The app contains no analytics or crash-reporting software.
- Health or financial information. Keeping a fast is recorded only if you add it to your own household days.
If you allow Apple or Google to share diagnostics with app developers, they may give us anonymous, aggregate statistics and crash reports through their developer consoles. These are not linked to you or to your account.
Reminders
The morning note and the reminders before festivals and fasts are scheduled on your phone by the app itself, with the permission your phone asks you for. They are not sent from our servers and we do not collect a push-notification token. You can turn them off in the app or in your phone's settings at any time.
Who handles it
We never sell, rent or trade your information, and we never share it for advertising. It is handled only by the service providers who help us run the app, each bound by contract to use it solely on our behalf:
- Cloudflare, Inc. (United States, with a global network) — hosting of the Panchang tables and of the database that keeps signed-in accounts in step.
- Clerk, Inc. (United States) — sign-in and account management, including the one-time codes sent by email.
- Apple and Google — Sign in with Apple and Google sign-in, if you choose them, and delivery of the app through their stores, under their own privacy policies.
- Microsoft 365 (Canada) — the mailbox where messages to support@panchang.ca are read and answered.
We may disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a person, and we will tell you where the law allows.
International transfers
We are based in Canada, and some of our providers store information in the United States and in other countries where they operate. Wherever it is held, it remains protected by our contracts with them and by this policy. For people in Quebec, we assess the protection offered before information leaves the province. For people in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, transfers rest on the European Commission's adequacy decision for Canada, the providers' standard contractual clauses, and, where they are certified, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- Account information — for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, it is erased from our live systems within 30 days and from backups within a further 30 days.
- Information on your phone — until you clear it in the app or remove the app.
- Messages to support@panchang.ca — up to two years after our last exchange, then deleted.
- A record that you asked us to delete your account (the email address and the date) — two years, so that we can show the request was honoured.
- Security logs kept by our hosting provider — a short, fixed period.
How to delete your account, and exactly what goes, is set out on the account deletion page.
How we protect it
Everything travels over encrypted connections and is encrypted where it is stored by our providers. We hold no passwords: you sign in through Apple, Google or a one-time code. Access to account information is limited to the few people who need it to run the app and answer you, protected by strong authentication. We keep only what the app needs, and nothing more.
If a breach of security ever put your information at real risk, we would tell you and the authorities the law requires us to tell, as quickly as we can.
Children
The Panchang itself is suitable for everyone, and anyone may use it without an account. Accounts are for people aged 13 and over, and 16 and over in the European Union and in Quebec. The app is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly hold information from a child under those ages. If you believe a child has created an account, write to support@panchang.ca and we will delete it.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you may ask what personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, and withdraw a consent you have given. You can see and change most of it yourself in the app, and delete it there in one step.
- Canada (PIPEDA). You may access and correct your information and withdraw consent, and you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
- Quebec (Law 25). You also have the right to receive your information in a structured, commonly used technological format, and to ask that we stop disseminating it. You may complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
- European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR). You also have the rights to restriction of processing, to data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and you may complain to your local supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, write to support@panchang.ca. We may ask you to confirm that the account is yours, and we will answer within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects or how it is used, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect, and tell you in the app when a change materially affects you.
