Nine nights and a victory
When Mahiṣa drove the gods from heaven, their anger became light, and the light took form as the Devī; each god placed a weapon in her hands. The Devī Māhātmya tells of the battle that followed. The nine nights of Navarātri keep it, and the tenth, Vijayadaśamī, keeps the victory. What no one could overcome alone fell before every strength gathered into one.
